Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Sam Omara is still alive, contrary to rumors circulating on social media about his death, police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma has confirmed.
In a phone interview, Kituuma said, “I spoke to one of his sons about 15 minutes ago. He assured me that his father is in critical condition but very much alive.”
Omara, 65, has been grappling with multiple serious health issues in recent years.

He has been undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and was recently diagnosed with kidney failure.
Last year, Omara was admitted to the private wing of Mulago National Referral Hospital to undergo dialysis.
His fight against prostate cancer has demanded prolonged medical care.
Omara, a towering figure in Uganda’s police force, once served as the Kampala North Police Operations Commander, a role that thrust him into the spotlight during the politically charged 2011 walk-to-work protests led by Dr. Kizza Besigye, former leader of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
His time in service remains divisive, with opposition activists often criticizing him for employing harsh tactics.
After retiring from the police, Omara transitioned to the private security sector, recently taking up the role of deputy CEO at Arrow Security Services, a firm owned by Capt. Mike Mukula, where he was in charge of operations.
Following his deteriorating health, the Uganda Police Force pledged to assist with his medical expenses after his family reached out to Capt. Mukula, who in turn engaged President Museveni for support.
As he continues to fight for his life, Omara’s family remains optimistic and is rallying prayers and support from friends and well-wishers.
