Bar Attendant Stabs Man to Death Over Phone Number in Luwero

A tragic incident unfolded in Luwero District when a man was fatally stabbed by a bar attendant following a disagreement reportedly triggered by his repeated requests for her phone number.

The victim, Shaban Banduga, a resident of Kakinzi trading center, was allegedly stabbed by Sumayiya Nayiga, who works at Blue One Bar in Kakoola village, located along the Kampala–Gulu highway.

The altercation occurred around 9:30 pm on Friday. According to Luwero District Police Commander Brighton Ahimbisibwe, Banduga—who was under the influence of alcohol—made unwanted advances toward Nayiga, which she declined. The situation quickly escalated into a confrontation, during which Nayiga allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed him.

Enraged by the attack, a group of local youths retaliated by beating Nayiga. Both she and Banduga were rushed to Luwero Hospital, but Banduga was declared dead on arrival. Nayiga was later referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for further treatment. Authorities say she will face murder charges once she recovers.

Local resident Samuel Musisi said the violence started when Banduga refused to take no for an answer and followed Nayiga into her room, allegedly assaulting her, which led to her stabbing him in self-defense.

“He was stabbed in the chest and died en route to the hospital,” Musisi said.

Salim Zimula Sserunkuma, a parish councillor, confirmed that a postmortem was conducted before Banduga’s body was handed over to his relatives for burial in Vvumba village, Butuntumula sub-county.

In another incident from December 2024, Reginah Namande of Kyamufumba village was remanded to prison after allegedly killing her husband, Charles Bunjo, by hitting him with a stone during a domestic dispute. The conflict reportedly arose from suspicions that Bunjo had caught her with another man.
