Edwin Nasasira, who sustained gunshot wounds to the hip and thigh, is calling for urgent intervention to curb the growing misuse of firearms across the country.
Currently hospitalized after being shot by an unidentified assailant at a bar in Kirinya, Bweyogerere, Nasasira is appealing to Parliament to take up the issue of gun violence and firearm misuse.
“I’m reaching out to you, my representative in Parliament, to request that you raise this issue and initiate a conversation on the escalating misuse of guns in our country,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The incident, which occurred on March 22, 2025, saw an unknown gunman fire recklessly into a crowd, injuring several people, including Nasasira.
Describing the ordeal as deeply traumatic, Nasasira says the experience has left him both physically wounded and emotionally shaken. Nevertheless, he remains committed to speaking out and pushing for change.
“No one should have to live in fear of gun violence. Sadly, it’s a harsh reality for far too many of us. My story reflects a larger crisis that is endangering the safety and well-being of our communities,” he said.
He emphasized the gravity of being attacked by an unidentified gunman and stressed the urgent need for tighter controls on illegal firearms and stronger enforcement of gun laws.
Nasasira has urged his local Member of Parliament to present his case in Parliament, in hopes that it will spark meaningful debate and policy change.
He advocates for comprehensive measures that address the root causes of gun violence, strengthen law enforcement, and protect innocent citizens from senseless attacks.
“I believe in your dedication to protecting the people of this country. Let my experience serve as a wake-up call to ensure a safer Uganda for everyone,” he added.
