A heartbreaking incident occurred in Pader District, northern Uganda, on Saturday, when a 12-year-old boy unintentionally caused the death of his 10-year-old cousin during a playtime mishap.
The victim, Solomon Ogen-rwot, was playing with his cousin around 5 p.m. in Mila Village, Paiula Parish, Paiula Sub-county, when tragedy struck.

Ballex Okello, the LC V councilor for Paiula Sub-county, explained that the older boy had created a toy spear by attaching a blunt knife to a stick. During their game, he threw the improvised spear, which fatally pierced Ogen-rwot’s neck.
Despite being rushed to Pajule Health Centre IV, Solomon was declared dead at around 6 p.m. His body was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The boys, both cousins from the same extended family, were living with their grandparents after their mothers—who are sisters—returned to their childhood home.
Aswa East Regional Police spokesperson Joe Oloya confirmed that investigations are ongoing and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
