Another Security Guard Shoots himself Dead in Masaka

In Masaka, the number of security guards that have shot themselves dead is raising concern.

This was reported by police in Masaka City, saying that they are currently investigating a second gun-related suicide.

Joseph Nasasira, a 27-year-old (now deceased) security guard, was attached to Cooperate Security Services Ltd. in Masaka City and deployed to provide security at Masaka Recreation Grounds, which is under construction.

Nasasira’s intention for taking away his life is not yet established since he did not leave any suicide note.

According to the southern regional police spokesperson, Mr. Twaha Kasirye. “His [Nasasira] body was discovered inside his room near Masaka Recreation Ground’s entrance, lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound in the chest,” he said.

Mr. Kasirye condemned the Sunday 10am incident, saying police investigations into the matter had kicked off. “Our team… recovered the killer weapon, and it’s going to be taken to government analytical laboratories for examination as police investigations into the matter go on,” he added.

The deceased was a resident of Kitanga Village, Kabale District.

Kasirye also called upon members of the public and security officers to always share whatever challenges they are experiencing in daily life with their colleagues or seek counseling services to avoid such incidents.

The deceased’s body has been taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem.

Earlier last month, a private security guard, Mesarch Matte, 34 attached to Time Corp Security Company, shot himself dead at the gate of the Kampala University Masaka campus after reportedly developing a misunderstanding with his family members.
