Vipers’ Nigerian Striker Lawal Dies in Tragic Accident

The sports fraternity in general and Vipers Football Club in particular is mourning the loss of their forward Abubaker Lawal, who died in an accident.

The Nigerian striker left for the creator on Monday morning following a motor-accident on Entebbe Road in Kampala, the club confirmed.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved player, Abubakar Lawal, who left us this morning,” league leaders Vipers said in an official statement.

“His body has been transferred to a medical facility for post-mortem examination. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Lawal’s family, club fans, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Lawal, 29 who joined Vipers in July 2022 from Rwandan club AS Kigali, participated in 24 matches across the Uganda Premier League and the CAF Champions League, scoring five goals, including Vipers’ inaugural goal in the group stages against Raja Casablanca.

Just three days ago, Lawal was an unused substitute in Vipers’ victory over Mbarara City in the Uganda Cup.

In the wake of Lawal’s passing, fans and the football community have taken to social media to pay tribute to him.
