Sadness prevailed in Masaka City after a security guard ended his life while at his work station. Police in the city are now investigating circumstances under which the private security guard shot himself dead.
The deceased, identified as a Mesach Matte, 34, employed by the Time Corp Security Company Ltd., was providing guard services at the Kampala University Masaka campus in New Kumbu, a Masaka City suburb.

Preliminary police investigations showed that Matte has been having unresolved family issues, which could have prompted him to take his own life.
The body of the deceased was seen by students who had come to have their lectures on Friday morning (February 21, 2025) and reported the matter to the university administration that alerted police.
Mr. Twaha Kasirye, the Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident; he also advised the public to always seek counseling from professional counselors whenever they get challenges in life.
“Taking away your life is not the solution in such situations; talk to elders, talk to friends; if all this fails, the police family protection department is there for you, or seek counseling from professional counselors other than committing suicide.”
He said police have recovered the killer weapon and taken the deceased’s body to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem as an investigation into the matter further on.
