Baby Loses Life, Seven Injured After Taxi Overturns along Kabale-Mbarara Road

The life of a two-month-old baby tragically ended in a road accident. The taxi the baby was traveling in along with his parents overturned on a dangerous spot along Kabale-Mbarara road and injured passengers.

“The driver of the taxi registration number UBK 650N, which plies the Kasese-Kabale route, lost control and overturned at Kabaraga Hill, about 8 km to Kabale town, injuring seven passengers and causing one death on spot,” Mr Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police Spokesperson, said following the midmorning crash.

The Officer in Charge of Traffic Police at Kabale police station, ASP Wilson Mucunguzi, noted that Kabaraga Hill has become a blackspot for road transport in the district and advised all the road users to always keep in their lane for easy view of any other incoming traffic.

“Drivers should always service their vehicles before putting them on the road, besides observing daily checkups of their vehicles to avoid avoidable accidents,” ASP Mucunguzi advised.

According to him, police recorded two serious accidents around the Kabaraga hill thus far this year, although hit-and-runs are many.

Maate identified the deceased as Mikel Turyamureeba.

The injured are Saturina Katusiime, 20; Gadi Nabataki, 43; Alice Biira, 47; Rose Komugabe, 49; Prudence Kyarisima, 27; Precious Ayebazibwe, 11, and a male juvenile only identified as Turyamutunga.

The crash scene was reportedly visited by the officer in charge of traffic police at Kabale police station, ASP Wilson Mucunguzi, and his team. The victims were rushed to Kabale referral hospital using Kabale referral ambulance, and the body of the deceased was taken to Kabale hospital mortuary for the postmortem. The wreckage of the car was towed to Kabale central police station pending.
