Police reports state that Mukulu and an unidentified accomplice, traveling on a motorcycle with registration number UFT 448M, stopped at Namulesa Trading Centre along the Jinja-Kamuli road and allegedly tried to lure the child with chapati and biscuits, suspectedly intending to abduct her for ritual sacrifice.
However, onlookers, seeing the suspicious behavior, alerted authorities. Kiira Regional Police quickly responded, leading to Mukulu’s arrest, much as his accomplice fled and remains at large, and the motorcycle has since been impounded.
On searching through the suspects’ belongings, items that included tobacco pipes, dead human bones, local herbs, sweets, and chapati were recovered.
The Kiira Regional Police spokesperson, SP James Mubi, appreciated the community for their vigilance and called for more of it, especially during the long holidays when crimes targeting children tend to rise.
Police are urging the public to report any suspicious activities promptly lest they resort to mob justice, which is a crime.
