Uganda To Start Nuclear Power Generation in Buyende

Uganda declared on Thursday that work will soon start on building her first nuclear reactor. In collaboration with China National Nuclear Corporation, the Buyende Nuclear Power Station will be built, assisting in the development of capacities for the peaceful use of atomic energy.

Only South Africa now has a nuclear power station that is operational in Africa, but Rosatom, the state-owned energy company, started building Egypt’s first nuclear facility last year.

To secure energy security and provide enough electricity for industrialization, the government claimed it is taking decisive action to incorporate nuclear energy into the mix of electricity generation.
The Buyende Nuclear Power Plant site is now being evaluated in order to prepare for the first nuclear power plant, which is anticipated to produce 2,000 MW, with the initial 1,000 MW
