Teacher Assaults Primary Four Kid To Death For Failure To Comprehend Lesson

Police have launched a manhunt for Pasco Hakizimana, a teacher at Mutorole primary school in the Kisoro district who is alleged to have brutally assaulted and killed a student in primary four because he didn’t understand what he was being taught.

Hakizimana purportedly attacked 11-year-old Dan Gasore, the child of Hillary Tumusiime, a boda rider and occupant of Ruburankono town in Gasiza ward Nyakabande sub-district.

Tumusiime explains that the child was crying when he got home and said the teacher had hit him in the head and back. He adds that the child’s condition got worse, and he started bleeding from his nose, so they had to rush him to a clinic nearby for treatment.

He claims that the clinic referred the child to Kisoro Hospital on Monday evening for further treatment, where he passed away shortly after arriving.

The spokesperson for the Kigezi region police, Elly Maate, stated that the deceased’s body is currently in the Kisoro hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem and ongoing investigations. He claims that the police have also begun their search for Hakizimana, who is on the run at the moment. Section 94 of the Children’s Act prohibits corporal punishment in Uganda.
