In Kagadi district, a 36-year-old man has passed away from injuries which he allegedly sustained when he was struck by a stick over a Shs 1,000 cards bet. Marsel Ategeka, a resident of Number Munana village in the Bwikara subcounty is the one that passed away.
While playing cards on Monday around 10 p.m, Christopher Kusemererwa, a local, is said to have hit him in the head with a large stick.
It was alleged that Kusemererwa struck Ategeka in the head with a stick after the deceased refused to pay Shs 1,000 after the game, rendering him unconscious.
According to Goretti Nyangoma, a neighbor of the deceased, Ategeka died while being rushed to Kagadi general hospital for treatment on Tuesday afternoon.
The Albertine region’s police spokesperson, Julius Hakiza, claims that the suspect’s whereabouts remain unknown. Hakiza said that police took the body, which was then taken to the Kagadi general hospital mortuary for a postmortem. Hakiza urged members of the general public to assist the police by providing crucial information that could result in the suspect’s arrest.
