Lira District Officials Arrested By State House Anti Corruption Unit For Selling Gov’t Land

On January 4, 2023, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and Uganda Police arrested and arraigned officials from the Lira District on charges of office abuse, fraudulent title procurement, and conspiracy to defraud.

The surveyors Opio Francis and Atoo Rebecca are accused of selling businessman Okodo Peter  land from the government. They are to be held until February 28, 2023.

Otike Pabious, a Natural Resources Officer, and Ogwang Joel, a Lira MZO Cartographer, are said to have assisted them.

According to an annual report, the State House Anti Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) was successful in recovering Ugx35.484 billion from this nation’s corrupt leaders in 2022.

Over 448 suspects were also arrested and arraigned by the Unit. Courts convicted 70 offenders, including CAOs, Executive Officers, managing directors, Secretaries of Commission, and Town Clerks from the government accounting department.

Since its inception on December 10, 2018, SH-ACU has worked closely with all constitutionally mandated agencies to eradicate corruption throughout the nation.

In addition, the Unit serves as a link between citizens, anti-corruption agencies, and H.E. the President regarding anti-corruption issues.
