Lady Dumps Baby boy in Latrine

ARUA: A 22-year-old woman has been taken into custody by Arua District police on suspicion of dumping her newborn son in a pit latrine.

The suspect has been identified as Drateru Janet, a resident of Yiwu-East village in Tilevu Parish, Vurra Sub County, Arua district, according to West Nile Region Police Spokesperson Josephine Angucia.

Angucia said that Drateru gave birth to a boy by induction on Monday, January 9, 2023, at around 10 p.m. She cut the umbilical cord and later dumped it into the neighbor’s pit latrine.

However, on Tuesday, a resident who had noticed the baby crying in the neighbor’s toilet reported the incident to the police.

According to Angucia, the baby was rescued by police and rushed to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.

The suspect was taken into custody at the Vurra police station, and the child abuse case was also filed at the same location.

The suspect’s husband was found to have denied fathering the child, according to the investigations.

She used medicine to induce the baby as a result, which led to the baby’s premature birth.

Angucia said that the baby is still alive and receiving treatment at Arua Regional Referral Hospital.
