According to local media, the club was accused of “continuous false administration” and “continued falsification of commercial papers” by the provincial prosecutor of Barcelona.
The club told CNN they had never bribed a referee and would cooperate with the investigation. However, four former club officials and a former top referee, who the club paid $9 million between 2001 and 2018 for “technical consultancy,” are also accused.
Barcelona is currently in first place in La Liga, although they recently lost to Manchester United in European competition.
