According to Mr. Maate, on Good Friday, some students left for the Easter break while about 60 others, including Kiconco, stayed behind. On Sunday morning around 10:30 am, students went to attend prayers at Nyabikoni Church of Uganda, but Kiconco and another student remained in their dormitories. It is reported that Kiconco had been feeling unwell and was on medication for an undisclosed condition.

The school’s head teacher, Mr. Denis Tusiime, told police that when the students returned from church around 1 pm, they found Kiconco’s body hanging from a rope tied to one of the roof beams in the dormitory.

“The students raised an alarm, prompting the matron to rush to the scene. She immediately informed me, and I reported the incident to Kabale Central Police Station,” Mr. Tusiime stated.

Police opened a case of suspected suicide and dispatched a homicide team led by acting OC/CID Kabale CPS, D/IP Barijunaki Samuel, to examine the scene. The body was later transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem.

Kiconco’s death follows two similar incidents involving students in Uganda. On February 21, 2025, 16-year-old Elishammah Ssesazi was found hanging in a dormitory at Seeta High School around 3 am. Reports indicate he had attended evening classes before retiring to the dormitory, where a classmate later found his body.

In another earlier incident, a Senior Three girl from Mpoma Girls’ School reportedly set herself on fire in protest over her parents’ decision to return her to the school.
