Angry residents in Mubende District on Sunday forced Bukoto South MP Twaha Kagabo off the stage after he made inflammatory remarks against the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Kagabo had been invited to speak during an NRM Buganda Parliamentary Caucus event held at Kassana playground in Mubende.
He started his speech by praising the NRM government for the development in the area. “People of Mubende, you are lucky. I saw good roads and markets when I arrived. You should be grateful to the NRM government,” Kagabo said.

However, tension escalated when he went on to criticize NUP supporters, referring to the party as a “disease” that had spread across Buganda during the 2021 elections. “I thank the people of Mubende for not supporting this disease called NUP,” he added.
His comments infuriated the crowd, who began shouting at him and demanding he leave the stage. “Leave the stage! Leave the stage!” they chanted.
Despite trying to continue, Kagabo was drowned out by the angry crowd and ultimately cut his remarks short by introducing Kyankwanzi Woman MP Christine Bukenya to speak next.
None of the NRM officials present intervened or responded to the incident.
Some NUP supporters interpreted the event as a political gain. “If even NRM supporters are rejecting Kagabo for attacking NUP, it shows how much people love our party. We are ready for victory in 2026,” said one anonymous NUP member.
Mubende was among the few districts in Buganda where NRM secured over 80% of the vote in the 2021 general elections.
