According to IP Boaz Arineitwe, the Kisoro District Community Liaison Officer, police received a report from a local resident, Ingabire Bosco, around 11 p.m. informing them of a body found at Mukaranka Trading Center in Kanaba Subcounty.
Preliminary reports suggest that Sebigori was beaten to death, possibly over theft allegations or while intoxicated. Arineitwe strongly condemned the mob justice and urged the public not to take the law into their own hands.
“Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the culprits,” he said. The victim’s body was taken to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
Mukaranka Trading Center Chairperson Maniraguha Efraim confirmed the incident occurred outside his shop and called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
The 2024 police crime report shows a 4.1% drop in cases reported—from 228,074 in 2023 to 218,715—but highlights a backlog in the justice system. Of the reported cases, 81,750 made it to court, with 26,328 resulting in convictions, while over 43,000 cases remain unresolved.
