Apparently, a medical officer in Uganda moonlights as an armed robber. Police in Kamuli have arrested nine individuals, including a clinical officer, on charges of aggravated robbery.
This intelligence-led operation, conducted on March 22, 2025, led to the recovery of two guns, two magazines, and other suspected stolen items.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Mugaya alias Lwambaaga Jordan, a clinical officer Fred Wambi, a resident of Bukolobe Zone, Kasaigo Ward, Kamuli Municipality; Grace ; Susan Kwagala; Godfrey Ayazika; Aziz Namungoma; and Sosi Pateri Boyi, all residents of Butongole Village in Bugweri District.
Others include Godfrey Mukasa, also from Butongole Village; Henry Wamubiligwe of Bulumba Village, Iganga District; and Stephen Basalirwa of Kawete, Namugalwe Sub-county in Iganga District.
Police intelligence, reporting, indicated that on March 20, 2025, at around 10:00 AM, Wambi was spotted transporting suspected firearms from Namwendwa to Bukolobe Cell, Kamuli Municipality. And seen the following day, taking items to his brother’s residence in Bugweri District.
In a coordinated police operation, spanning Kamuli and Bugweri, Wambi, his brother Mugaya, and seven other suspected associates were arrested. A resultant search of the premises recovered two firearms and two magazines with live ammunition.
Other items seized include two motor vehicles—a Land Cruiser (Reg. No. UAZ 656B) and a Toyota Hiace (Reg. No. UDR 580P)—several motor vehicle number plates, two television sets, and four new mattresses.
Busoga North Police Spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha disclosed that the suspects are believed to be part of a criminal gang responsible for a series of aggravated robberies across the Busoga region.
“We commend the community members for their cooperation in sharing vital information that led to this successful operation,” said ASP Kasadha.
Residents were practically assured by police of continued efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance security in the region.
