Kamuli Mother Arrested for Killing Her One-Year-Old Daughter

Kamuli police have arrested a 21-year-old woman, Zainabu Mulungi, on suspicion of killing and secretly burying her one-year-old daughter, Kabawo Hadija, in Nalinaibi village, Nawanyago sub-county.

Neighbors and relatives grew suspicious after noticing the child’s absence for two days.

When confronted, Mulungi claimed she had taken her daughter to the hospital. However, she left her home and was only found upon her arrest in Kamuli Municipality.

Reportedly with detectives, a foul smell led family members to a shallow grave near Mulungi’s home. After alerting the local chairperson, they confirmed it was the child’s burial site.

Investigators established that Mulungi’s husband, Asuman Kabawo, was away in Mbulamuti at the time. The couple had earlier taken their daughter for medical attention before he left, unaware of the tragedy that would unfold.

” I was shocked to learn about her mysterious death and burial,” he proffessed.

Police detectives exhumed the remains of the infant, Hadija Kagawa, in Nalinaibi village, Nawanyago sub-county, and transported them to Kamuli General Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Kasadha Michael, commended the community for reporting the matter, saying investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the child’s death.
