Tragedy struck Oyam District after a 32-year-old man beheaded his 24-year-old wife at her parents’ home following a fight.
Paul Opira, a resident of Aboke Town Council in Kole District is reported to have struck and killed Phiona Aceng, a mother of two and resident of Dicunyi Village, Juma Parish in Kamdini Sub County, Oyam District.
It is said that on March 5, 2025, Opira followed Aceng to her parents’ home in Oyam where she had spent five months after she left his home in Kole District following a domestic brawl last year.
Mr Richard Ekuka, the LCI chairperson of Dicunyi Village said Opira, on March 5, attended a hearing of his complaint against his wife before the LCI court.
“The uncle of the deceased, Mr Geoffrey Obote sat the couple down to settle their issue but they were giving conflicting statements. Later they agreed to make peace between themselves, and at night they went to sleep together,” he said.
During hearing of his complaint, Opira repeatedly accused Aceng of infidelity.
The following morning, Aceng’s decapitated body was later found lying in a pool of blood in her house, while Opira was nowhere to be seen. Local authorities maintain that the body also had multiple injuries.
Police from Kamdini Police Station visited the scene, and the K9 personnel led them to two female suspects, one of whom, Christine Awelo, was apprehended to help with investigations.
The dog led people to the house of Anna Alum, and when the door was opened, the dog went straight to her bed. Her phone, which was on the table, was checked, and it was found that she called Opira three times before Aceng’s murder.”
“We went there, and the K9 took us to where the knife used was dumped, and we found that the assailant happened to be her husband because they picked a quarrel that she is in love with another man, which is not something good. Anytime we shall have the man arrested,” Mr. Mutegeki Job, the Oyam district police commander, summarized.
