The victim, Kella Kebirungi Adyeri, was allegedly shot by her husband, Lance Corporal Denis Sserunkuma, a soldier stationed at Kaweweta Army Training School in Kinyogoga Sub-county.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect and the deceased were married and lived together in their grass-thatched house within the barracks,” ASP Twiineamazima stated.
According to police, the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute after Adyeri allegedly refused to prepare food.
“It is alleged that the deceased ran out of their house, with the suspect pursuing her while armed with an SMG rifle. He then shot her in the head, killing her instantly,” Twiineamazima added.
Sserunkuma then attempted suicide by shooting himself in the chin but survived.
Police responded to the scene, registering a case of murder and attempted suicide.
The suspect was taken to Kaweweta Military Health Centre IV for treatment, while Adyeri’s body was transported to Bombo Military Hospital in Luweero District for a postmortem.
Authorities in Nakaseke are investigating the case, with the army securing the firearm and other evidence.
