Police in Pallisa have detained a teacher accused of assaulting two minor brothers, resulting in the death of one.
A murder investigation (PAL CRB 091/2025) has been launched, and the suspect, Stephen Orone, has been arrested, interrogated, and his statement recorded.

Bukedi North Region police commander, Moses Kitiyo Mwanga, stated that the incident took place on Thursday at Omotoi Primary School.
The victims, 14-year-old Tom Okuwani and 16-year-old Stephen Oonyo, had gone to visit their sister, Beatrice Ikiror, to collect the Shs 1,000 she had with her. However, school staff mistakenly suspected the boys of having an improper relationship with their sister and subjected them to severe caning.
Both brothers sustained serious injuries and were sent home, but their condition worsened. On Friday, they were rushed to Pallisa Hospital and later referred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, where Okuwani succumbed to his injuries. Oonyo remains in critical condition.
Okuwani’s body has been transferred to Mbale City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
