Magogo Acknowledges Uganda’s Unpreparedness to Host CHAN in February

In a rare admission, Federation of Uganda Football Associations President Moses Magogo has acknowledged that Uganda was not ready to host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) as initially scheduled for February. Magogo said that the postponement to August has provided crucial time to fully prepare necessary adjustments.

It should be remembered that earlier in January, Magogo assured Ugandans that the country was ready to host the competition.

However, he went back on his words, saying, “We have benefited from the postponement of CHAN. As Uganda, we could barely have been ready.”

Magogo mentioned that the rescheduling has given Uganda more time to improve infrastructure, particularly the training grounds set to be used for the tournament. In a country where duplicity has been normalized, deadlines have lost meaning and integrity negated.

Uganda, alongside Kenya and Tanzania, will now host CHAN from August 2-30, 2025.
