Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Mr. Elly Maate, began, saying, “The report was made at Rukiga Police Station by Mr. Jack Tugume, the Local Council III chairman of Bukinda Sub-county. Police officers visited and documented both crime scenes.”
“Victor Niwamanya was allegedly murdered by a mob after he cut and critically injured Ivan Niwamanya. The two developed a misunderstanding that escalated into a fight on Sunday while drinking at a bar owned by one Banet at around 11pm,” Mr. Maate explained.
It is alleged that Victor, reportedly armed with a panga, hacked Ivan on the neck. Ivan was rushed to Muhanga health facility for first aid before being referred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment.
Following Ivan’s attack by Victor, enraged residents mobilized and attacked Victor at his home, where they lynched him.
Mr. Maate added that statements had been recorded from key witnesses. Victor’s body was transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem before being handed over to his relatives for burial.
“No arrests have been made yet. Inquiries are ongoing to identify those involved in the mob killing so they can be brought to justice,” he added.
