Kasese police have launched an investigation into the suspected suicide of Police Constable (PC) John Kanane, who reportedly took his own life.
Kanane, a dedicated officer stationed at Kasese Central Police Station, is said to have locked himself inside his room at the police barracks before fatally shooting himself on Friday evening.

According to Luke Mbusa, the Rwenzori East Police Regional Community Liaison Officer, nearby residents heard a gunshot followed by smoke coming from the room. Alarmed, they called for help, prompting fellow officers to rush to the scene, where they discovered Kanane lying in a pool of blood.
Mbusa described Kanane as a hardworking and well-respected officer, frequently assigned to guard the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) offices due to his strong integrity.
Originally from Budaka District, Kanane’s death has left many shocked. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and the possible reasons behind it.
