In Bunyoro, police in Hoima East Division are investigating an incident in which a woman attempted to end her life over a Shs4 million debt.
Winfred Murungi, a resident of Kiryatete Cell and currently hospitalized, has failed to die in her third attempt.
Area Defence Secretary Godfrey Muchwa of Kiryatete disclosed that neighbors became alarmed around 1pm when Murungi failed to open her door or respond.

“Her neighbors peeped through the ventilators and saw her lying on her bed, appearing lifeless,” Muchwa said.
The residents then broke into her house and found Murungi unconscious. A note on the scene explained her decision to end her life due to mounting debts, including money owed to her mother.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that Murungi was rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, where she is receiving treatment.
“She is suspected to have ingested poison but was still alive when our team arrived,” Hakiza said.
Hakiza advised individuals facing challenges to seek help.
“Talk to someone about your problems. Many people face difficulties and eventually overcome them. Ending your life leaves your loved ones behind to struggle even more,” he advised.
