Preliminary police investigations show that the fire started from a nearby charcoal stove on which maize was being roasted.
In the chaos that ensued after the fuel truck had lost control and turned, several people attempted to siphon fuel from the tanker and were tragically burned.

Police said 22 bodies had by Monday morning been picked from the city mortuary by the families of the deceased.

The government promised Shs5 million to the families of the deceased to help in burial arrangements and Shs1 million to the persons receiving treatment.
