A fatal road accident occurred in Rukungiri District, resulting in the death of one person. The deceased, identified as Akanyamba Kato Joseph (23) from Butungwa Village, Kisiizi Parish, Nyarushanje Sub county, lost his life when the Isuzu Elf truck he was driving, with registration number UAU 445D, crashed into a eucalyptus tree at Kasooni village on August 13, 2023, around 2:30 PM. The truck was carrying 100 bags of cement and was en route from Nyarushanje Trading Center to Kisiizi.
The accident was caused by excessive speed, and although Joseph did not survive the crash, the two passengers onboard escaped without injuries. The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, informed that Corporal Oketayot Micheal and his team inspected the scene, and Joseph's body was taken for a postmortem at Kisiizi hospital mortuary.
The bags of cement were returned to their owner, while the damaged vehicle was transported to Kisiizi Police Post, awaiting inspection by the IOV (Inspector of Vehicles) unit. The accident was attributed to the driver's high-speed driving.
